Over 7 years of receiving calls from people infected with HBV via tattooes and piercings we have even had one from a UK Member of Parliament! Steve Pound MP for Ealing North is also one of the infected via tattooes and nothing better highlights just how dangerous the practice is. Sadly as our numbers of HBV carriers has boomed so have the Tattoo and Piercing Venues that share out the infections, to date we still hear of clients being shown a clean needle and inks and a pair of latex gloves as if that is going to avoid all transmission!
The Blood Bank refuses all donations from the pierced and the tattooed for one year, it also refuses all donations from people who have unprotected sex with many partners because its testing shows they are two things that are major causes of infection. It is time people realised this simple medical fact.
Excellent work has been done to clean up this often filthy Industry, yet after 10 years of campaigning we have only produced the Tool Kit below which to date no Tattooist or Piercing Venue is legally trained to use or even read.
